NFRF Available Peer Support Training

The NFRF offers support and resources from accredited organizations and also our own NFRF trainers and coaches.

Introduction to peer support training courses will provide attendees an in-depth overview about the process and privilege of becoming a public safety peer support team member. The courses will discuss the prevalence and scope of mental health issues facing our nation's public safety professionals. This includes the process and approach to developing and implementing a peer support program that includes; brief crisis intervention and basic critical incident stress management skills (CISM); self-care; public perception, and resilience building. This one-hour discussion will address your questions and curiosity about becoming a peer supporter for your department.

* The NFRF has established an ongoing relationship with several approved clinical providers.

Attendees will receive a comprehensive and engaging Basic Peer Support Training courses that include core concepts of becoming a Peer Supporter. The courses will discuss the prevalence and scope of mental health issues facing our nations’ public safety professionals. This includes the process and approach to developing and implementing a peer support program that includes; brief crisis intervention and basic critical incident stress management skills (CISM); self-care; public perception, and resilience building.

** Some of the courses we offer are California POST Certified.

Attendees will take an in-depth look at Mental Health Performance and tactical coping skills in these courses. Attendees will gain knowledge and understanding of trauma and the neurobiological responses, work with grounding and somatic regulation techniques for on-scene and post-incident challenges. Learn to apply progressive debrief with regulation strategies, identify when to seek further assistance, learn the trifecta approaches to trauma treatment, and define the resilient responders implementing mindful living.

One to three week in-depth, in-person cohort training that provides a specialized solution exclusively for our nations’ first responders. This training course is 100% focused on the unique mental health and addiction-related challenges that are common in first responders.

The desired result is to help first responders recover and join together as a high performing team.

* The NFRF has established an ongoing relationship with several approved clinical providers.
** These specific treatments can range from $2700-$4700 per week per first responder. These programs provide emergency, as-needed treatment for first responders who need immediate relief.

One of the most difficult times in a first responders’ life can be retirement. Being prepared for retirement and the obstacles frequently encountered with this process are covered in this course, along with building resilience. This is an extremely comprehensive Retirement & Resilience course. Redefining purpose, identity, exploring hobbies, learning healthy coping mechanisms, and intra-family communication are also covered. Lastly, how alcohol can be used as a coping mechanism for cumulative workplace trauma and how to ensure you live a long and healthy retirement life.

The NFRF was founded on the principle of cutting through the red tape associated with obtaining the funding you and your department need to help their mental health programs offer the highest form of service. 

Complete the form below and share with us in detail what your department’s specific financial needs are. Some examples may include; annual care for your department’s therapy dog, a 30-person course to train your First Responders in basic peer support, or an in-treatment program for yourself or a co-worker.
